Temple of Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil, Colombo is one of the most visited Colombo City attractions by the foreign tourists. Entrance tickets are NOT required to visit this place by visiting tourists. It is better to visit this Hindu temple in the morning and to exit by noon time from there. You can get blessing by watching the poojas (3 times a day) in this temple.Also you can pay a small amount of money and can get special pooja with your name. This Kovil area is a good place to do meditation as it is with peace and calm. If you are lucky you can witness Hindu Tamil wedding in this temple as lot of Tamil weddings used to take place here. On any auspicious day Tamil marriages used to take place here. If you are visiting there with a tuk tuk, keep it with you for your return journey. Indian Hindu Tourists come to this Temple for to participate in the temple Poojas and to get blessing from the Temple Priests.
Temple of Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil is wrongly mentioned in Tripadvisor.com page as Temple of Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil. Actually this is a Lord Shiva Temple that was built in the year 1972 by India Business Chetty families when Sri Lanka was called Ceylon. During this time Indian Chetty families were having ships and used to travel Far East countries for business purpose. For their God worshiping purpose they had built many beautiful Hindu temples in Sri Lanka, Rangoon, Saigon, Singapore and many other places in the Far East countries. If you can visit these places you can see the similarities of building style between these temples
There are two temples constructed in this Captain's Garden, Colombo. One is the main one which is called as Kailasanathar Temple also named as Kaileswaram. And the other one is devoted to Lord Vignewar which is named as Ganapathi and Pillaiyar. These temples used to be opened in the morning and evening times. Normally they are closed in the noon time. Fridays are special for the Hindu religion people. So on these days the temple will be kept for more hours. Also during the temple's annual festival it used to be kept more hours. Sri Kailasanathar Kovil is one of the most frequented temples in Colombo. The temples are looking great from the outside and also inside. There are lot of colorful paintings and art works are available in and around the temple.
This place is located near to the Lake house publishing House. If you are coming from the Regal Cinema junction, turn Left and pass the Lake house and after some distance you can find the entrance of the temple road on your left hand side. Or can use a tuk tuk to reach the temple. Check if there is Tariff meter in the Tuk Tuk. Otherwise the driver may cheat you.

Best time to visit this temple: In the Mornings from 6:00 am to 10:00 am. In the evenings 17:00 pm till 20:00 pm
On every Fridays and during the Temple's annual Festival days lot of worshipers used to gather here.

This is a religious place. Don't enter inside of the temple with footwear or cap.
White long dresses are appreciated.
Avoid using camera in side of the temple.
No smoking or spitting around the temple.
