Negombo city, Sri Lanka should be your first stop as it is the nearest city to the Colombo International Airport. This city is considered as the top tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. Lot of foreign Tourists Negombo is the Gateway to Sri Lanka once they come out of the Colombo International Airport. The City is located in the coastal area of Sri Lanka and it can be easily reached from the Bandaranaike International Airport in short time (7 Km from Colombo Airport). It is located approximately 37 km north of the Colombo city centre. During the Dutch, Portuguese and British colonial era this city took an important place as the main exporting harbor for spices, specially for the locally produced cinnamon to Europe. Now it is popular for the fishing industry and for the Tourism Sector. It can't be compared with the Thailand's Pattaya beach but offers everything that a visiting tourist may look for. This city can be reached from Colombo by Express A/C busses, Normal Route Busses and by Sri Lanka Government Train Service.

Negombo is serving as the top stop over destination for the visiting tourists on their arrival and when they are departing from Sri Lanka. Also it is the best stop over for Transit passengers too. In addition, this town is closer to the BIA Airport in Katunayake. This city is preserving the old European era buildings and their water way - canal. Also this region produces varieties of spices that are used to flavor the international cuisines along with producing ceramics and brassware craft productions. Another important land mark of the city is its long running Dutch Canal that was used by the Dutch rulers to transport goods to and from large ships that were anchored in the deep sea during their rule. There are lots of Roman Catholic churches and the Dutch fort gate is still standing over there to display the towns’ long history.
